Make it stand out.

Allen Goodman began carving as a child, shaping bars of soap into boots before moving on to wood whittling in his teens. Around age 19, he took his first class with Tom Wolfe—renowned member of the Caricature Carvers of America and author of over 50 carving books—which sparked a lifelong journey in woodcarving. Since then, Allen has studied under many notable carvers and participated in craft shows, creating walking sticks and wood spirit wall hangings. His work caught the attention of Tom Wolfe himself, who sold Allen’s walking sticks at his shop on Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. With over 35 years of experience, Allen now handcrafts carving knives sold through Klingspor Woodworking Stores, and offers original roughouts, cutouts, carvings, and a sharpening service for both carving tools and kitchen cutlery. He also developed "Cutter Butter," a stropping paste designed to maintain razor-sharp edges. Passionate about teaching, Allen offers both group and one-on-one caricature carving instruction, including original designs like the "Shelf Elf," featured in Carving Magazine and shared freely on his YouTube channel. From designing and carving to sharpening and finishing, Allen not only creates beautiful woodcarvings but also shares the skills and joy of carving with others.
